Next Friday marks the last day of my third trimester at SAE Qantm Institute Melbourne, as well as the last day of Year 1. Has gone so fast! Part of the curriculum is to exhibit work that students have done over the trimester to the public. This trimester, SAE has arranged to exhibit students work at the Testing Grounds in Southbank Melbourne.

This exhibition is open to all students, public and industry experts. It has the potential for external individuals to enjoy student work and to potentially aid in networking. The main point of it is to foster the students' ability to publicly display their work and how to handle critiques and feedback.
While at it's heart the exhibition is a good idea, it is all very much last minute rushed ordeal that seems to have been hastily organised. I do feel that this is rather unfortunate. It could be a prime networking event if there was enough attention given to the public and industry individuals if there was more notice than a single week.
The Game Design students this trimester will be displaying examples of their 2D vertical slices, photo-bashed/scrunch paper art, 3D modular set, 3D faction models as well as demonstrating at least one of their prototypes. At this point I will be showing off my 3rd prototype which was a 3D side scrolling platformer that involved following a light throughout the level.

The prototype will be built out to run on a PC, while the rest of the project work will be displayed inside of a binder booklet of sorts that can be browsed by the viewer. The traditionalist in me feels that the book may not be the best idea at an exhibition, as I feel that the majority of people browse walls and displays like an art gallery. I might be mistaken, and it will be interesting to see the outcome.
Regardless it will be a good experience and good to see the hard work other students have put into their assignments this trimester. It is always good to hear critique about your work, even if it's negative. I find it helps immensely.
